Regular biography
Jonathan Arons is a Professor Emeritus in the Physics Department at the University of California, Berkeley. He earned his Ph.D. in Astronomy from Harvard in 1970 and joined the Astronomy Department at UC Berkeley in 1972, later moving to the Physics Department in 1980. His research focuses on the physics of compact astrophysical objects, particularly neutron stars, and their interactions with magnetized environments. He has contributed to studies on relativistic collisionless shocks, magnetospheres of neutron stars, and the acceleration of cosmic rays. Arons has held several fellowships, including the Guggenheim Fellowship and Miller Professorships, and currently serves as Executive Director of the Miller Institute and Director of the Theoretical Astrophysics Center.
