LEONG Hon Wai

LEONG Hon Wai is an Honorary Fellow at the National University of Singapore (NUS), affiliated with the Department of Computer Science. He holds a Ph.D. in Computer Science from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign and a B.Sc. (Hon) in Mathematics from the University of Malaya. Prof. Leong joined NUS in 1987 after serving as an Assistant Professor at UIUC. He has held various leadership roles within the department and contributed to curriculum reforms aligned with ACM recommendations. His research focuses on algorithms for computational problems in areas such as bioinformatics, transportation logistics, and VLSI-CAD. He is also known for his innovative teaching methods and commitment to promoting computational thinking across diverse educational levels.

Hon Wai Leong is a Professor of Computer Science at the National University of Singapore, specializing in Algorithms, Computational Biology, and Bioinformatics. His research focuses on developing efficient algorithms for complex computational problems, including protein complex prediction, genomic island detection, and VLSI design. He has contributed to advancements in bioinformatics through the analysis of protein interaction networks and the application of computational methods to understand biological systems. His work also extends to computer vision, such as ball detection and tracking in broadcast sports video, and optimization techniques for layout and routing problems in integrated circuits.
