Regular biography
Jón Steinsson is the Marek Professor of Public Policy and Economics at the University of California, Berkeley, in the Department of ECON. He joined the department in 2018 after teaching at Columbia University from 2008 to 2018. Steinsson holds a bachelor’s degree in economics from Princeton University and a Ph.D. from Harvard University. His research focuses on empirical macroeconomics, including price dynamics, monetary and fiscal policy effects, and forward guidance. He is Co-Director of the Monetary Economics program at the National Bureau of Economic Research. Steinsson grew up in Iceland and is actively involved in its political and economic discourse.
