Shachar Kariv

Shachar Kariv is the Benjamin N. Ward Professor of Economics at the University of California, Berkeley, in the Department of Economics. His research focuses on Economic Theory, with particular interests in networks, social learning, and personal and social preferences. Kariv joined UC Berkeley in 2003 after earning his Ph.D. in economics from New York University. He has held various leadership roles, including Department Chair (2014-17) and Faculty Director of the UC Berkeley Experimental Social Science Laboratory (2009-2014). He is also a co-founder of Xmobile, a platform for conducting social science experiments using smartphones. Kariv has received several teaching awards, including the UC Berkeley Haas School of Business Cheit Award for Excellence in Teaching (2012) and the UC Berkeley Division of Social Sciences Distinguished Teaching Award (2008).
