Namrata Kala

Namrata Kala is the Digital Equipment Corp. Associate Professor of Management and an Associate Professor in Applied Economics at the MIT Sloan School of Management. She is an economist with research interests in environmental and development economics. Her current research projects include studying how firms and households learn about and adapt to environmental change and regulation, the returns to environmental technologies, and the returns to worker training and incentives. She received her PhD in environmental economics from the School of Forestry and Environmental Studies at Yale and holds a BA (Honors) in economics from Delhi University, as well as an MA in international and development economics from Yale University.

Namrata Kala is a researcher in development economics, environmental economics, and organizational economics. Her work explores the intersection of economic policy, environmental sustainability, and organizational behavior. Kala's research interests include the economic impacts of climate change, agricultural productivity, and the role of institutions in development. She has published on topics such as climate adaptation, the effects of energy-saving technology on productivity, and the economic consequences of policy interventions like demonetization. Her studies also examine the relationship between climate shocks and labor markets, as well as the impact of managerial autonomy on firm performance. Kala's research combines empirical analysis with theoretical insights to address pressing global challenges.
