Mohammad Mehdi Fazel-Zarandi

Mohammad Mehdi Fazel-Zarandi is a Research Scientist and Senior Lecturer in the MIT Sloan School of Management. His research focuses on Artificial Intelligence and Data-Driven Decision-Making, with applications in both public and private sectors. His work has been published in journals such as Operations Research, Management Science, and Manufacturing & Service Operations Management, and has received recognition including the Best Paper Award. He has taught AI and analytics courses to MBA and undergraduate students at MIT and has received multiple teaching honors, including being named MIT Sloan Teacher of the Year three consecutive years (2024, 2025, 2026), the Outstanding Teacher Award in 2023, and the MIT Graduate Teaching Award in the same year. Before joining MIT, he was a Postdoctoral Associate and Lecturer at the Yale School of Management. He earned his PhD in operations management from the Rotman School of Management, University of Toronto, and his MS in industrial engineering from the same institution.

His recent work includes analyzing immigration enforcement and opioid over-procurement using machine learning techniques.
