Geoff Beckwith

Geoff Beckwith is a Lecturer in the Global Economics and Management (GEM) program at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology's Sloan School of Management. He is affiliated with the Behavioral and Policy Sciences academic area. Beckwith has been the Executive Director & CEO of the Massachusetts Municipal Association since 1992, leading the statewide nonprofit organization that works with all cities and towns to improve the effectiveness of local government. He oversees all aspects of the association, including policy development, advocacy before state and federal agencies, member services, and training and education programs for local officials. He is also President/CEO of MIIA, the MMA’s $500 million nonprofit municipal insurance company. From 1985 to 1991, he was elected to the Massachusetts House of Representatives and was the chief author of the nation’s first toxics use reduction law. He was named "Environmental Legislator of the Year" in 1989 and "Energy Legislator of the Year" in 1988.
