Ernst Rudolf Berndt

Ernst Rudolf Berndt is a Louis E. Seley Professor Emeritus in Applied Economics at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) Sloan School of Management. He was previously Director of the National Bureau of Economic Research Program on Technological Progress and Productivity Measurement. His research focuses on the healthcare industries, including the impact of medical innovations on treatment costs, globalization of clinical trials, and the effects of direct-to-consumer marketing on drug utilization. Berndt has also explored productivity growth, quality-adjusted price changes, and the structure of advertising services industries. He holds a BA in economics and philosophy from Valparaiso University, as well as an MS and PhD from the University of Wisconsin.
