Cynthia Barnhart is the Abraham J. Siegel Professor of Management at MIT Sloan, where she is also a Professor in Operations Research. She has been a member of the Institute’s faculty since 1992 and has served in various leadership roles, including as Chancellor of MIT from 2014 to 2021. Her research focuses on large-scale optimization and analytics, with applications in transportation and logistics systems. Barnhart has supervised numerous graduate and undergraduate theses and has published extensively in flagship journals. She earned her SM in transportation in 1985 and PhD in 1988 from MIT. She is an INFORMS Fellow and a member of the American Academy of Arts and Sciences and the National Academy of Engineering.
