Alexey Makarin

Alexey Makarin is the Mitsubishi Career Development Assistant Professor in International Management and an Assistant Professor of Applied Economics at the MIT Sloan School of Management. His research focuses on political economy, economics of digitization, and international trade. He has examined the economic consequences of the 2014 Russia-Ukraine conflict and the impact of social media on political and individual outcomes. Before joining MIT Sloan, he was an Assistant Professor at the Einaudi Institute for Economics and Finance (EIEF) in Rome, Italy. He is a Research Fellow at CEPR and has published in leading journals such as the American Economic Review, Econometrica, and the Economic Journal. His work has been featured in media outlets including the New York Times, Financial Times, and Scientific American.
