James W. Rector

James W. Rector is a Professor in the Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering at the University of California, Berkeley. His research interests include exploration geophysics, applied seismology, and machine learning within the oil and gas industry. Rector's work focuses on oil and gas reservoir geophysics, multichannel signal processing, borehole seismology, and seismic while drilling. He is also involved in seismic unconventional reservoir characterization and hydraulic fracture monitoring. Rector has contributed to near-surface seismology, including tunnel and void detection. He has developed patented technologies related to seismic imaging during drilling and has received awards from the Society of Petroleum Engineers and the Society of Exploration Geophysicists.
