Adda Athanasopoulos-Zekkos

Adda Athanasopoulos-Zekkos is an Associate Professor of Civil and Environmental Engineering at the University of California, Berkeley, and serves as Vice Chair for Diversity, Equity, Inclusion & Belonging. Her research interests include geotechnical engineering infrastructure, population growth and densification, soil dynamics, and multi-hazard stressor mitigation strategies. She focuses on assessing and mitigating the impact of multi-hazard stressors on geotechnical systems, addressing challenges such as age-related deterioration, natural and manmade hazards, and climate change. Her work explores the development of analytical and design solutions for soil dynamics problems, including the resiliency of flood protection systems and soil structures under extreme loading conditions. She also investigates the performance of critical systems such as ports during earthquakes and the effects of man-induced vibrations in urban environments.
