Jasenka Rakas
Regular biography
Jasenka Rakas is a Continuing Lecturer in the Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering at the University of California, Berkeley. Her research interests include the availability and reliability of communications, navigation, and surveillance systems, airport systems planning and design, airspace capacity and delay analysis, systems modeling and performance analysis, and air traffic flow management. She is also the Deputy Director of the UC Berkeley National Center of Excellence for Aviation Operations Research (NEXTOR). Rakas has contributed significantly to the analysis of the impact of navigational equipment outages on airspace performance and has conducted pioneering work in controller-pilot communications. Her research focuses on the National Airspace System (NAS) infrastructure performance and investment analysis, as well as the integration of new aviation technologies.
Scholar-generated biography
Jasenka RAKAS is a researcher at the University of California, Berkeley, focusing on air transportation, air traffic control, sustainable aviation, reliability, and risk. Her work explores the design of airspace for urban air mobility, the environmental sustainability of airports, and the safety implications of urban air mobility and manned eVTOLs. She also investigates public perception of urban air mobility, the resilience of aviation networks during crises, and the impact of communication technologies on aviation safety. Her research includes the development of Bayesian network models for aviation safety and the analysis of air traffic controller-pilot miscommunication. Additionally, she examines climate adaptation governance and the life-cycle approaches to sustainable airport operations.
