Filip C. Filippou

Filip C. Filippou is the Byron and Elvira Nishkian Chair in Structural Engineering and Professor of the Graduate School at the University of California, Berkeley, in the Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering. His research focuses on structural engineering, mechanics, and materials, with an emphasis on the nonlinear analysis of structures and the development of simulation models. Filippou has been a member of the CEE faculty since 1983 and served as department Vice-Chair from 1999 to 2003. He is a Fellow of the American Concrete Institute and has received several awards, including the J. James R Croes Medal, the Alfred Noble Prize, and the Presidential Young Investigator Award. His work includes the development of simulation models used in OpenSEES and the Matlab toolbox FEDEASLab, which is widely used for teaching and research in nonlinear structural response.
