Fotini Katopodes Chow
Regular biography
Fotini Katopodes Chow is the Fred & Claire Sauer Chancellor's Chair in Environmental Engineering, Professor in the Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering at the University of California, Berkeley. Her research interests include Large-Eddy Simulation, Wind Energy, Urban Dispersion, Air Quality, Wildfire Smoke, Turbulence Modeling, and Environmental Fluid Mechanics. She focuses on numerical modeling of the atmospheric boundary layer to improve predictions for wildfire smoke transport, urban dispersion, greenhouse gas emissions, and wind energy. Her current projects involve wind turbine interactions with boundary layer dynamics over steep terrain, urban dispersion modeling, improved numerical turbulence techniques, topography representation, and grid nesting.
