About
Regular biography
Astar Winoto is Professor Emeritus of Immunology and Molecular Medicine at the University of California, Berkeley, in the Department of Molecular and Cell Biology. His research focuses on the molecular mechanisms of cell death in the immune system, particularly in the context of cancer and autoimmune diseases. His lab employs biochemical, molecular biological, and mouse transgenic/gene targeting approaches to study these mechanisms. Current projects include investigations into T cell self-tolerance, the role of apoptotic pathways in central tolerance, and the signal transduction events of the TNF superfamily in cell death.
