Abby Dernburg
Regular biography
Abby Dernburg is a Professor of Cell Biology at the University of California, Berkeley, affiliated with the Department of BIO. Her research focuses on chromosome dynamics during meiosis, particularly the interactions between homologous chromosomes and the role of special genomic regions called meiotic Pairing Centers. Her work utilizes the model organism Caenorhabditis elegans to combine genetics, cell biology, and genomic approaches. Dernburg's lab investigates how these dynamic processes contribute to chromosome pairing, synapsis, and recombination, as well as the evolutionary conservation of meiotic mechanisms. She is also affiliated with the Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory and the Howard Hughes Medical Institute.
