Henk Roelink

Henk Roelink is a Professor Emeritus of Genetics at the University of California, Berkeley, in the Department of BIO. His research focuses on embryonic induction, particularly the mechanisms by which cells influence neighboring cells through inducers. These inducers, which belong to a small number of signaling molecule families, are involved in both adult stem cell maintenance and differentiation, as well as in cancer. His work includes studies on Sonic Hedgehog (Shh), BMP, and Wnt signaling, with applications in directing embryonic stem cells to differentiate into specific cell types. Roelink's research utilizes neuralized embryonic stem cells and chicken embryos to investigate signaling processes and their implications in development and disease.
