Mu-ming Poo is Professor Emeritus of Molecular and Cell Biology at the University of California, Berkeley. His research focuses on the cellular and molecular mechanisms underlying neuronal polarization, synapse plasticity, and activity-dependent refinement of neural circuits. His work explores early events in neuronal polarization, including the differentiation of axons and dendrites, and the role of signaling molecules such as cAMP, protein kinase A, and LKB1. He also investigates synaptic plasticity, neural circuit modification, and the role of brain-derived neurotrophic factor (BDNF) in learning and memory. His research includes studies on spike timing-dependent plasticity (STDP), axon guidance molecules, and the effects of drugs of abuse on synaptic plasticity.
