Hiroshi Nikaido is Professor Emeritus of Biochemistry at the University of California, Berkeley, in the Department of BIO. His research focuses on the biochemical and molecular genetic analysis of bacterial membranes, particularly the structure and functions of outer membranes. His work includes the study of channel-forming proteins, the diffusion of lipophilic compounds across bacterial membranes, and the mechanisms of multidrug efflux transport systems.
