Bob Zucker

Bob Zucker is a Professor of the Graduate School in the Division of Molecular and Cell Biology at the University of California, Berkeley. His research focuses on the dynamic regulation of synaptic transmission, particularly how the strength of synaptic communication changes in response to neural activity. He employs biophysical methods, including the use of light-sensitive compounds, fluorescent dyes, and computational modeling, to investigate mechanisms underlying synaptic plasticity. His work explores the roles of calcium, neuromodulators like serotonin, and molecular pathways such as cAMP signaling in shaping synaptic function. Zucker's research spans both invertebrate and vertebrate systems, with projects involving Drosophila and crayfish neuromuscular junctions. He also studies the structural dynamics of SNARE proteins during exocytosis and endocytosis using FRET techniques.
