Karsten Weis

Karsten Weis is a Professor in the Department of BIO at ETH Zurich. His research focuses on the Biology of the Nucleus, with an emphasis on subcellular compartmentalisation, nucleocytoplasmic transport, nuclear pore complex structure and assembly, and the regulation and function of biomolecular condensates in gene expression. His work explores how cells organize their contents within and between compartments, using model systems and techniques such as in vitro reconstitution, in vivo imaging, cryo-EM, -omics approaches, and genetics. He also develops novel imaging and image analysis tools to study dynamic processes. The Weis Group investigates the biophysical properties of the cytoplasm and their regulation by polysomes and mRNA.
