Johann Michler

Johann Michler is a Professor at the École Polytechnique Fédérale de Lausanne (EPFL), affiliated with the ME department. He leads the Laboratory of Mechanics of Materials and Nanostructures at Empa. Michler obtained his diploma in Materials Science from the University of Erlangen-Nürnberg in 1995 and a PhD in Materials Science from EPFL in 2000. He has been a lecturer at EPFL since 2005. His research focuses on thin film deposition technologies and scale-dependent mechanical properties of materials. He has authored or co-authored over 400 publications, organized several international conferences, and founded three start-ups.

His research contributes to understanding the fundamental properties of materials for applications in engineering and technology.
