Regular biography

Ehud Isacoff is a Professor of Biochemistry at the University of California, Berkeley, in the Department of BIO. His research focuses on the mechanisms of function of ion channels, neurotransmitter receptors, and voltage-gated enzymes, as well as synaptic transmission, modulation, and homeostatic plasticity. His lab has developed ensemble and single molecule optical methods, chemical optogenetics, and super-resolution techniques to study these processes. These tools are applied to investigate molecular mechanisms of synaptic signaling proteins in isolation, in cells, and in neural circuits. His work includes efforts to address Parkinson’s Disease and drug discovery for depression and psychosis.
