Konstantinos Karapiperis

Konstantinos Karapiperis is a Tenure Track Assistant Professor at École Polytechnique Fédérale de Lausanne (EPFL), affiliated with the Data-Driven Mechanics Laboratory (LMD). His research focuses on mechanics, multiscale modeling, and data science, with applications in geomaterials and structural materials. Prior to EPFL, he served as a Postdoctoral Researcher and Lecturer at ETH Zürich, supported by a Marie Sklodowska-Curie Fellowship. He holds a PhD in Applied Mechanics and a Minor in Applied Mathematics from Caltech. His teaching includes courses on multiscale modeling in mechanics and soil mechanics and flow through porous media.

Konstantinos Karapiperis is a researcher in Data-Driven Mechanics at EPFL, focusing on Solid Mechanics, Granular Materials, Metamaterials, Multiscale Modeling, and Scientific ML. His work explores data-driven multiscale modeling in mechanics, generative modeling for metamaterial design, and the application of graph neural networks for fracture path prediction. He investigates granular material behavior using discrete element methods and nonlocal mechanics to discover internal length scales. His research also includes adaptive data sampling, stochastic elastoplastic modeling, and the mechanical behavior of granular media under various loading conditions. Karapiperis integrates machine learning with traditional mechanics to enhance predictive capabilities and understand complex material responses.
