Katrin Beyer

Katrin Beyer is a Full Professor at École Polytechnique Fédérale de Lausanne (EPFL), affiliated with the CE department. Her research focuses on seismic engineering, masonry structures, and structural dynamics. Beyer studied civil engineering at ETH Zurich, earning a diploma with distinction in 2001. She later obtained a Master's degree in earthquake engineering from the Istituto Universitario di Studi Superiori (IUSS) in Pavia, Italy, and a PhD from the University of Pavia in 2007. She joined EPFL's School of Architecture, Civil and Environmental Engineering (ENAC) in 2010 as a tenure-track assistant professor and founded the Earthquake Engineering and Structural Dynamics Laboratory (EESD). She was promoted to associate professor in 2017 and currently serves as dean of ENAC.

Katrin Beyer is a researcher at Ecole Polytechnique Fédérale de Lausanne, specializing in earthquake engineering, seismic design, unreinforced masonry (URM), and reinforced concrete (RC). Her work focuses on the behavior of structural elements under seismic loading, including the performance of RC walls, URM walls, and masonry spandrels. She conducts experimental studies, such as quasi-static cyclic tests, to evaluate the strength, stiffness, and drift capacity of these materials. Her research also addresses the influence of boundary conditions, size effects, and damage mechanisms on structural performance. Beyer's contributions include the development of advanced modeling techniques and the analysis of real accelerograms for seismic simulation.
