Scholar-generated biography
Jan Skaloud is a professor at EPFL with a focus on advanced technologies for unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs) and geospatial data processing. His research explores the integration of inertial navigation systems (INS), global navigation satellite systems (GNSS), and direct georeferencing techniques to enhance the accuracy and reliability of airborne laser scanning and UAV operations. He investigates methods for noise reduction, fault detection, and calibration in micro-electro-mechanical systems (MEMS) and inertial measurement units (IMUs). His work also addresses challenges in wind estimation, mapping quality prediction, and autonomous navigation for small UAVs in complex environments.
