Andrew Dillin is a Professor of Immunology and Molecular Medicine at the University of California, Berkeley, in the Department of Molecular and Cell Biology. His research focuses on the challenges proteins face as organisms age, including the dysregulation of chaperones and degradation machineries, leading to protein misfolding and the need for cellular stress responses. His lab investigates how aging affects proteome integrity and how these changes are communicated across tissues. Using model systems such as nematodes, mice, and stem cells, Dillin's work explores the endocrinology and genetics of aging, with the goal of uncovering therapeutic strategies for age-related diseases. His research includes the study of mitochondrial and endoplasmic reticulum stress, the role of heat shock response, and the impact of nutrient availability on aging.
