About
Regular biography

Laurent Coscoy is a Professor of Immunology and Molecular Medicine at the University of California, Berkeley, in the Department of Molecular and Cell Biology. His research focuses on the evasion of host immune response recognition by viruses, particularly herpesviruses, which employ complex strategies such as the down-regulation of cell surface MHC-I. His laboratory investigates the molecular mechanisms of immune evasion by herpesviruses, with an emphasis on Kaposi's Sarcoma-associated Herpesvirus (KSHV). His work explores how KSHV modulates host cell membrane proteins and establishes latency, as well as the mechanisms of viral infection and immune recognition. His research has implications for understanding viral pathogenesis and developing antiviral strategies.
