VAGINS Mark

Experimental Physics (Astroparticle Physics)

About
Regular biography

Mark Vagins is a Faculty member at The University of Tokyo, Department of PHY. His research focuses on Experimental Physics, specifically Astroparticle Physics. His work involves developing new methods for observing neutrinos through the enhancement of existing detectors like Super-Kamiokande and the design of future facilities. A key goal is to measure the diffuse supernova neutrino background (DSNB), often referred to as the 'relic' supernova neutrinos. He co-invented the addition of water-soluble gadolinium to Super-K, which enables the detection of these relic neutrinos without constructing a new experiment. His research also includes high-statistics reactor antineutrino oscillation studies and improving neutrino oscillation and proton decay searches.
