Robert Ward

Professor Robert Ward is a Professor in the Department of PHY at The Australian National University. His research interests include interferometry development for precision measurement related to gravitational wave detection, such as the development of quantum squeezed light sources and low-frequency gravitational force sensors, as well as commissioning of the Advanced LIGO interferometers. Half of his research is also devoted to developing measurement technologies for space applications, including coherent free space laser links, coherent beam combining for high power laser systems, and precision laser tracking and remote manouevring of space debris.

Robert L. Ward is a physicist specializing in optics, interferometry, and gravitational waves. His research focuses on the detection and analysis of gravitational waves from compact binary mergers, including binary black hole and neutron star inspirals. He has contributed to major observational campaigns such as LIGO and Virgo, analyzing data from events like GW150914 and GW170817. His work includes studies on the implications of gravitational waves for general relativity and cosmology, as well as the measurement of the Hubble constant using gravitational-wave standard sirens. Ward's research also addresses space debris and the development of advanced interferometric detectors.
