CAI Weiwei

CAI Weiwei is a Faculty member in the School of Mechanical Engineering at Shanghai Jiao Tong University. His research interests include optical and laser based techniques, fluids, imaging, and spectroscopy. He has contributed to publications in areas such as volumetric emission tomography for combustion processes and miniaturization of optical spectrometers. CAI Weiwei has held positions at Clemson University, Virginia Tech, the University of Cambridge, and Shanghai Jiao Tong University, where he has been an Associate Professor since 2015. He teaches Advanced Engineering Thermodynamics and has received several awards, including the Chinese Government Award for Outstanding Students Studying Abroad and the SAOT Young Researcher Award.

Prof. Weiwei Cai specializes in extreme reactive flows, laser diagnostics, computational imaging, and miniaturized spectrometers. His research focuses on developing advanced diagnostic techniques for combustion processes, including tomographic absorption spectroscopy and hyperspectral imaging for temperature and chemical species analysis. He has also explored miniaturized spectrometers and their applications in gas dynamics and reactive flows. His work includes numerical and experimental validation of three-dimensional combustion diagnostics and the use of deep learning for flame evolution prediction. Additionally, he has investigated Li-ion battery temperature estimation and combustion stability in gas turbine combustors.
