Regular biography
Thomas Appelquist is the Eugene Higgins Professor of Physics at Yale University's Department of Physics. His research focuses on theoretical high energy physics, including topics such as particle physics, quantum field theory, and effective field theories. He has contributed to the prediction of the J/Psi particle, the formulation of the decoupling theorem, and the development of the electroweak chiral Lagrangian. His current work involves analyzing effective field theories with approximate conformal symmetry and dilation, motivated by lattice studies of strongly coupled gauge theories. Appelquist teaches quantum mechanics and quantum field theory at Yale and has a long-standing interest in theoretical physics. He was born in Emmetsburg, Iowa, and grew up in northwest Indiana.
