Josh Arnold

Dr Josh Arnold is a Senior Lecturer in the School of Electrical Engineering and Computer Science at The University of Queensland. His research focuses on computational models of brain-wide calcium imaging data from the zebrafish model. Arnold earned his undergraduate degree in Engineering (Software) from the University of Queensland and completed his PhD in computational neuroscience under the mentorship of Prof. Janet Wiles. His work has included developing social behaviours for a rat-sized robot (the iRat) and exploring the role of time in neural computation. He has contributed to several publications in journals and conferences, including studies on brain cell cultures, auditory stimulus adaptation, and sedation impacts on zebrafish brains.

Joshua Arnold is a postdoctoral researcher at the Queensland Brain Institute, focusing on neural networks, computational models, and graphical models. His research explores the intersection of neuroscience and artificial intelligence, with an emphasis on developing computational frameworks for understanding brain function and behavior. Arnold's work includes building speech recognition systems for language documentation, creating autonomous frameworks for studying social behavior in rats and robots, and investigating brain-wide circuitry in zebrafish models of autism. He also examines how conduction delay plasticity enables spiking neurons to learn precise temporal structures in noisy environments. His research contributes to understanding neural mechanisms underlying auditory processing, seizure susceptibility, and neurodevelopmental disorders.
