Stephen Madden

Professor Stephen Madden is a Senior Fellow at The Australian National University, affiliated with the Quantum Science & Technology Department. His research focuses on fibre and integrated optics, planar waveguides, optical transmission systems, and ultrafast laser system development. He leads work on hybrid technologies for integrated optical devices and contributes to high power ultrafast laser systems for nonlinear optics and materials processing. Madden's career spans research in liquid crystals, semiconductor processing, and optical metrology, with a focus on advancing optical coatings and diamond turning techniques. He also oversees the Precision Optics ANFF Optofab node, offering custom optical coatings and advanced manufacturing services.
