Michael J. Boskin

Michael J. Boskin is T.M. Friedman Professor of Economics and Senior Fellow, Hoover Institution, Stanford University. He is also Research Associate, National Bureau of Economic Research. He served as Chairman of the President’s Council of Economic Advisers from 1989 to 1993. He chaired the Commission on the Consumer Price Index, whose report transformed global methods for measuring inflation, GDP, and productivity. His research focuses on public economics, macroeconomics, tax and budget theory and policy, applied macroeconomics, monetary policy, and applied microeconomics. He is internationally recognized for his work on world economic growth, Social Security, U.S. saving and consumption patterns, and the implications of technology and demography on capital, labor, and product markets.
