Alexandria Boehm

Alexandria Boehm is the Richard and Rhoda Goldman Professor of Environmental Studies, Professor of Oceans, and Senior Fellow at the Woods Institute for the Environment at Stanford University. She is affiliated with the Civil and Environmental Engineering department. Her research focuses on pathogens in the environment, including their sources, fate, and transport in natural and engineered systems. She investigates how pathogens are transmitted to humans through contact with water, feces, and contaminated surfaces. Her work addresses key problems in both developed and developing countries, with the goal of designing and testing novel interventions and technologies for reducing the burden of disease. She also studies coastal water quality, focusing on the sources, transformation, transport, and ecology of biocolloids such as fecal indicator organisms, DNA, pathogens, and phytoplankton, as well as nitrogen sources and fate.
