John Howard

Professor John Howard is a Distinguished Professor in the Department of PHY at The Australian National University. His research interests include Advanced Imaging and Inverse Methods (AIIM), Plasma diagnostic and remote sensing systems, Inverse methods (tomography), Toroidal plasma confinement, and Coherence imaging systems. He has worked on plasma diagnosis and physics in the H-1 heliac and has been head of the Plasma Research Laboratory since 2009. Professor Howard is a Fellow of the Institute of Physics and has published approximately 100 papers in peer-reviewed journals. He invented coherence imaging optical systems used on major fusion devices and has supervised over 20 PhD or MPhil students.
