Regular biography
Nicholas Makris is an Associate Professor in the Department of Mechanical Engineering at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology. His research interests include the physics of sensing, imaging, and perception; acoustics; statistical estimation in sensing; ocean exploration; undersea remote sensing of marine life and geophysical phenomena; ocean ecology; group behavior; wave propagation and scattering theory in remote sensing through random media and waveguides; polar and icy satellite exploration; musical instrument acoustics and evolution. He is affiliated with the MIT Department of Mechanical Engineering and can be contacted via email at makris@mit.edu.
