Antony Hosking is Professor and School Director of the School of Computing at The Australian National University. He is a Distinguished Scientist and Life Member of the Association for Computing Machinery, an elected Member of the Association Internationale pour les Technologies Objets, and Professional Member of the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers. His research interests lie in the areas of programming languages and programming systems, software systems and data storage and management. He works on problems arising in object persistence, database systems, distribution, memory management (garbage collection), managed language runtimes, language virtual machines, optimizing compilers, and architectural support for programming languages and systems.
