Biography

Dr. Philip Grant is a management educator, researcher, and consultant with expertise in strategy, organizational behaviour, and management. He holds a PhD in Industrial Marketing and Management from KTH Royal Institute of Technology in Stockholm and an MBA from Simon Fraser University. His research has focused primarily on arts and culture marketing, consumer behaviour, and management, with publications in leading academic journals including Marketing Theory and the Journal of Consumer Behaviour. His work has been presented at international academic conferences and received the Best Paper Award at the Academy of Marketing Conference in 2015. Over more than 15 years of university teaching, Dr. Grant has taught undergraduate and MBA courses in strategy, organizational behaviour, negotiation, international business, marketing, and entrepreneurship. His professional experience includes entrepreneurship, consulting, executive leadership, and nonprofit management. Dr. Grant approaches sustainability through the lens of building organizations that can adapt, learn, and remain effective over the long term. In his teaching, he encourages students to consider how organizational structures, leadership practices, culture, stakeholder relationships, and approaches to change influence an organization’s capacity to respond to evolving social, economic, technological, and environmental pressures. His approach emphasizes that sustainable change requires more than a good strategy. Organizations must develop the structures, systems, capabilities, and commitment needed to successfully implement and sustain change over time. Dr. Grant has a longstanding commitment to community and nonprofit leadership. He has served on numerous nonprofit boards and committees, contributing his expertise in strategy, governance, organizational development, fundraising, and leadership. He has served on the Board of Choral Canada and has been involved with Belkin House in Vancouver for many years. His ongoing work with nonprofit and community organizations provides practical experience with the challenges of organizational growth, governance, volunteer engagement, resource constraints, and change.
