Regular biography

Professor Alexander Maier is a member of the Research School of Biology at The Australian National University, where he leads the Maier Group, focusing on molecular mechanisms of malaria pathogenesis. His research explores how malaria parasites survive in the host, the mechanisms of sexual differentiation, and the roles of lipids in the parasite's life cycle. The Maier lab investigates molecules involved in malaria pathogenesis and transmission using biochemical, molecular, and cell biological techniques. His work has been supported by various grants, including an NHMRC Ideas Grant and an ARC Discovery Grant. He also contributes to teaching, convening courses such as Biomedical Parasitology and Advanced Microscopy in Biosciences.
