Annaliese Pope

Dr. Annaliese Pope holds a PhD from the Centre for the Study of Theory and Criticism at Western University and is interested in critical theory, phenomenology and sound studies. She has performed research on data mining and sound, the soundscapes of low-income housing, and sonically-mediated spaces of social rupture. She has worked with organizations such as the London Poverty Research Centre (London, ON) and Boyle Street Education Centre (Edmonton, AB) to interrogate connections between economic and social marginalization and sonic experiences. Her current project uses a Marxist lens to explore the use of sound in identity formation and signaling , and profit creation, on online music streaming platforms.
