George Boyer

George Boyer is the Martin P. Catherwood Professor of Industrial and Labor Relations at Cornell University, affiliated with the Department of Economics and the School of Industrial and Labor Relations. His research focuses on British social welfare policies from 1830 to 1950, particularly the extent of working-class income insecurity, workers' coping methods, and the evolution of social welfare policy during the nineteenth and early twentieth centuries. He has authored 'An Economic History of the English Poor Law, 1750-1850' and has contributed to numerous publications in economic history. His current work includes a book manuscript on the development of the British welfare state. Boyer teaches courses on the development of economic thought and institutions, the evolution of social policy, and twentieth-century economic history. He also serves as the ILR School’s Director of Teaching and chairs the School’s Teaching Advisory Committee.
