Nathan Beckmann

Nathan Beckmann is an Associate Professor in the School of Computer Science at Carnegie Mellon University. His research focuses on Systems, including Computer Architecture, Data-Intensive and Cloud Computing, Mobile and Pervasive Computing, Operating Systems, and Performance Modeling & Analysis. Beckmann received his PhD from MIT in 2015, advised by Daniel Sanchez, and his MS from MIT in 2010, advised by Anant Agarwal. His PhD dissertation was recognized with the George M Sprowls Award for an outstanding dissertation in electrical engineering and computer science at MIT. His research aims to improve the energy efficiency of general-purpose computers by designing spatial dataflow architectures that avoid the inefficiency of von Neumann CPUs while keeping computation near-data.
