Message From the Chair, Department of Mechanical & Aerospace Engineering, University of California, San Diego, serves as Chair. The department, part of the Jacobs School of Engineering, offers BS programs in mechanical, aerospace, and environmental engineering, as well as MS and PhD programs in mechanical and aerospace engineering. The department is home to the Program in Material Sciences and Engineering and the Center for Energy Research. It also offers a Master of Advanced Study (MAS) in Medical Device Engineering in collaboration with the Bioengineering department. The department has strong ties with several research units on campus, including the Scripps Institution of Oceanography, the San Diego Supercomputer Center, and the Center for Energy Research. The department's research spans a wide range of interdisciplinary studies, including mechanical and aerospace engineering, and is known for its experiential learning opportunities and facilities such as the newly expanded 'mega-shop' for manufacturing work.
