Hong Kong Physics Olympiad

The Hong Kong Physics Olympiad, organized by the Department of Physics at The Hong Kong University of Science and Technology, plays a key role in training Hong Kong teams for the International Physics Olympiad (IPhO) since 2004 and the Asian Physics Olympiad (APhO) since 2007. The program has contributed to the awarding of 142 gold, silver, and bronze medals in these competitions up to 2023. The Olympiad also hosts the Pan Pearl River Delta Physics Olympiad, involving students from Hong Kong, Macau, and Mainland China. In 2016, the HKUST Department of Physics hosted the 17th APhO, the first time the event was held in the city, with 193 participants from 26 Asian countries and regions. The Olympiad provides students with academic challenges, cultural experiences, and opportunities for international collaboration.
