Regular biography
Prof. Dr. Michael Krautblatter is a professor at the Technical University of Munich, Department of Civil Engineering. His research focuses on natural hazards, landslides, and permafrost systems, with an emphasis on permafrost in unstable rock and soil slopes, the quantification of landslide magnitude, frequency, and interconnectivity, and the anticipation of landslides through mechanical models and system understanding. His work includes field, laboratory, and modeling-based research in the Alps and Arctic environments. Krautblatter studied geography and geology in Passau, Durham, and Erlangen, and received his PhD (summa cum laude) from the University of Bonn for research on permafrost in alpine rock walls. He has conducted research at various universities and established a permafrost laboratory in Bonn.
