Ali Abbas

Professor Ali Abbas is a Professor in the Department of Mechanical Engineering at The University of Sydney. He serves as Associate Dean (Research) and is recognised as a leader in sustainable process systems engineering and circular economy innovation. He leads strategic research initiatives and fosters impactful industry partnerships. Ali completed his PhD in Chemical Engineering at the University of Sydney. He is the inaugural Chief Circular Engineer at Circular Australia and Founding Director of the University’s Waste Transformation Research Hub.

Ali Abbas is a researcher in Process Systems Engineering and Circular Economy, focusing on sustainable technologies and resource recovery. His work explores innovative methods for carbon capture, renewable energy production, and waste valorization. Abbas has published extensively on topics such as membrane-based carbon capture, nanotechnology for sustainability, and the utilization of agricultural waste for biofuel production.
