Mekayla Storer

Mekayla Storer is a Fellow at the University of Cambridge, affiliated with the School of Biological Sciences. Her research focuses on tissue regeneration, wound healing, blastema formation, and cell-to-cell interactions, with an emphasis on signalling mechanisms. She investigates how stem cells regenerate mammalian digits, particularly the cellular and molecular processes involved in blastema formation and the coordination of cells during digit tip regeneration. Her work incorporates techniques such as single cell RNA-sequencing, lineage tracing, and computational modelling.

Mekayla Storer is a Principal Investigator at the Wellcome-MRC Cambridge Stem Cell Institute, focusing on the cellular and molecular mechanisms underlying tissue regeneration and developmental processes. Her research explores how senescence contributes to embryonic growth, tissue regeneration, and the role of stem cells in maintaining tissue homeostasis. She investigates the interplay between senescence-associated secretory phenotype and cellular plasticity, as well as the role of mesenchymal precursor cells in regeneration. Her work also examines the impact of age-related inflammation on stem cell function and the molecular pathways governing digit tip regeneration.
